About the Event
Year 8 students will be visiting the Western Australian Maritime Museum to explore the rich history of our coastline, seafaring traditions, and the stories of those who travelled across the seas. This excursion connects directly to the Year 8 English curriculum, where students study how texts—both factual and imaginative—convey ideas about identity, journeys, and discovery.
During the excursion, students will engage with exhibitions that showcase shipwrecks, migration stories, and maritime exploration. They will practise critical and creative thinking by examining how these real-life narratives are represented through objects, displays, and multimedia. Students will also participate in activities that develop their ability to:
Analyse narratives: Compare how historical stories are told through different mediums.
Interpret perspectives: Consider the viewpoints of sailors, migrants, and explorers.
Create texts: Use the museum experience as inspiration for reflective writing, descriptive language tasks, and storytelling.
