SSWA Interschool Cross Country

If your child has been selected to participate in the SSWA Interschool Cross Country Event held at UWA Sports Park on Thursday 16th May, 2024.

DETAILS:

Competition SSWA Interschool Cross Country. Individual & team events based on age. Ages 12-15 years old.

Time Students are required to be at the venue by 8.30 a.m. to collect their race bib which is fitted with a timing chip, however our first race (Boys 12 years) will not begin until 10.35. There will be Gingin District High School Primary students competing in state trials which will begin racing at 9.10 a.m. (Boys and Girls 11 years old).

Cost $12.00 per person

Competitors Gingin District High School will be entering the competition in teams. Teams may consist of 3 to 10 runners. The first 3 students to complete the race in each category will constitute the team for that school.

Runners will be competing based on their AGE not year level. For example, students who are in Year 7 will either be competing in 12 years or 13 years events based on their age at the end of 2023.

There will be an award for the champion boys’ and girls’ teams for each age group. The top three placegetters in each race will receive a medal. Presentations will be done after each race, so placegetters should remain in the vicinity of the finish area until the completion of their presentation.

Some students may compete as individuals because we are unable to submit more than 2 runners per event.

The first 10 competitors will be taken to a tent and issued a letter of invitation to nominate for the state team. When competitors finish their event, they must return to their school area,

Transport Due to the number of students unable to attend without a bus being provided, Gingin DHS PE Department will now be putting on a bus for students who cannot get their by car. The bus will leave the school at 7.00am SHARP and will arrive back at school at approximatey 4.00pm. Please tick the appropriate box on the transport page.

Clothing School Uniform is required. A Gingin District High School singlet (pending weather) will be provided to students on the Wednesday. This singlet must be returned WASHED on the Monday. Non-school uniform items are NOT permitted (e.g., Black jumpers that are not school jumpers). Bring a spare school uniform, towel, and shoes if wet weather is forecast.

Shoes Shoes must be worn at all times. Spikes are not permitted for runner 12 years and under. There are some uneven surfaces with sticks, mulch and sand so runners must choose appropriate footwear.

Food/Drinks Runners should provide their own food and drinks. There will be no canteen facilities available.

Course Races will start at the scheduled race time. A central coordinating point will be the SSWA flags and tent on the edge of the fields. Administration/Registration will occur in an area located near the Rugby clubroom. All races will be run in an anti-clockwise direction around the course. Courses will be pegged with running tape on both sides. Races will start on the grassed area on UWA Park, in front of the Rugby clubroom. Competitors will run on the grassed reserve in and around the complex. Marshals will be stationed around the course, dressed in SSWA orange vests, and will be directing runners throughout the event.

Program  If it looks like we may receive a team trophy, we ask that all competitors in that team stay for presentations. Otherwise, students may leave at the conclusion of the final event.
