About the Event

As part of our Year 9 English curriculum, students will attend a live performance of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. This experience supports key outcomes from the Western Australian Curriculum, particularly in the Literature and Literacy strands. Viewing a live performance helps students engage more deeply with the themes, characters, and language of the play, while also enhancing their understanding of dramatic techniques such as staging, lighting, and performance choices. The excursion encourages critical and creative thinking, develops students’ abilities to analyse and evaluate texts, and inspires meaningful responses through writing, discussion, and reflection. Experiencing Shakespeare’s work in performance brings the text to life in a way that builds appreciation, understanding, and confidence in interpreting classic literature.
